The message I want to deliver through my darkroom photos is I hope when you look at these photos you can feel the vividity of the city, the smell of the flowers on the street, the feelings of people taking a late night train, the architecture, the freshness and shininess of the cobblestoned streets after the rain, the farmers’ market, and most of all the New York vibe you can never find in any other place on Earth. There is also a string that attaches all 5 photos. If I put the photographs in order, the first photo is the cobblestoned street after the rain, then the flower shop, the subway, the farmers’ market, and the street. Both the first and the last photos are street life shots, and they sort of resemble each other in terms of my position when I got the shots. The second and the fourth ones are all about New York's typical shops. And the photo in the middle is the one and only subway that has carried the city for so many years and still counting. The subway is the representation for a transition from this side of the city where you are used to the architecture and shops on the street to the other side where you can find the same things yet are still different in their own ways. The photographs are in the order: architecture, nature, architecture, nature, and the combination of both. We all know New York City is the concrete jungle, and there is no doubt architecture is an important part of the city. However, I also want you to see the lovely side of the city where the nature is not forgotten.
